SOFT GOLD

Soft Gold, Johanna Dahm

Ring, Clay | pure silver, steel wire, diamond dust, 18-ct yellow gold, rough black diamonds, 2008

Japanese Art CLAY incorporates precious metals and is as pliable as soft wax. Kneading gold or pure silver devoid of its usual resistance is an astonishing experience.

It is hence possible to skip the positive/negative casting process, and model directly, one to one.

The considerable shrinkage that occurs during firing is a challenge but can also be seen as a new design option. When fired, clay clings tightly to anything with which it comes into contact: steel wire, rubies, diamonds, even diamond dust.

The shrinkage closes a ring shank and sets diamonds for you.
