Anamorphosis was popular in the time of Mannerism, when society demanded that subjects such as sex, death and the image of God were encrypted.
The couples, the reaper, the eye: they all come alive when we gaze, swaying slightly, into the silver cone, as if into a wishing well.
The metaphor: only those who see can see.
